Security and Privacy: Frequently Asked Questions

Security and Privacy: Frequently Asked Questions

Can Maternity Neighborhood use my client's information for marketing or distribution to other vendors? No. We have never and will not use any patient data for patient-centered marketing efforts or campaigns, and we will not provide individual patient data to any third parties.  Any use of identifiable data is subject to HIPAA and we cannot use it for any purpose without your express permission.  Agreement to our Terms of Service, BAA or Privacy Policy does not constitute permission on the part of you or your patients for us to use any identifiable data for marketing or research purposes.

Is my information safe and secure?  We have the federal government's ONC-ATCB certification for Privacy and Security measures that meet the highest government standards for oversight and protection of private health data. In fact, we are the only EHR for maternity care to have this certification. We also use greater than bank level security to protect your data. Everything is written to multiple disks, backed up daily, and stored in geographically diverse locations.

Why is web-based software better? When you use web-based software you don't have to worry about anything technical. We handle all the security, backups and upgrades. If you ever lose your computer to theft or accident you don't lose your data. Just login from another computer and it's all there.

How does this relate to HIPAA? There are very high fines ($150,000) for loss of devices with health information stored on them. Web-based tools eliminate this possibility since there is no data stored on the actual device by Maternity Neighborhood tools.
